SENDCO Testimonial
Observations over time of our lead practitioner, from the SENDCO of a mainstream primary school in Portishead, North Somerset.
The following testimonial is shared with permission and reflects sustained work within a mainstream primary school context:
“From the very first session, Laura has blown every single member of our school staff away with her skills and professionalism. Her rapport with the children is exceptional. Laura has been working with our most high-need SEND pupils, pupils with an EHCP, Pupil Premium pupils, and pupils who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. There hasn’t been a single child that has not been able to access her provision.
As a school we have seen improvement in the children’s attention span, ability to listen to and follow instructions, ability to collaborate, and in their social communication. The inclusive environment that Laura creates is very low demand and allows children to feel safe and comfortable in her care.
The children have loved every session with Laura and look forward to their time with her. She provides some of our more vulnerable children with the opportunity to join in a smaller group session that allows them the time and space to process any challenges that they might be facing at school or at home.
Laura is a wonderful advocate for inclusion and is an exceptional role model. We are so grateful for all of the work that she has done.
Laura is forward-thinking and flexible. She is always keen to develop and evolve her practice to meet the needs of the children in our school. Her ambition in creating performance spaces for our children has been so inspiring. To see parents’ faces as they watch their children perform is an absolute pleasure. Some of our parents have never seen their children be able to contribute to any performance before, and the positive impact that this has on our families is not to be underestimated.
I fully support any future work that Laura embarks on. She is a credit to her community and it has been an absolute privilege to have her work with our wonderful children.”
